hello, fellow writers! welcome to my first ever collab, UNLIKELY!!

as I have recently hit a milestone of 500 followers, I have decided to host a collab to interact more with our lovely writers through something fun :) I also owe a big shoutout to @tenderfrailty for creating a collab that I participated in recently! now that I am taking on the host role myself, I just wanted to thank you for being such a good inspiration for how an amazing host should be.

➱ the theme for this collab is opposites attract! you can be as creative with it as you’d like.

➱ examples of what tropes or ideas you could use to represent this theme would be enemies to lovers, overcoming differences as an established couple, two strangers from different crowds meeting under unforeseen circumstances, and etc.

➱ there will be absolutely NO SMUT OR NSFW CONTENT ALLOWED. I just would personally prefer for this collab to be smut-free and open to all readers.

➱ FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE. there will be two slots for each member, forming a TOTAL OF 13 SLOTS when excluding the slot I have already reserved for myself. I will continually be updating the availability of each member as soon as I can, but to avoid any additional confusion, I will be messaging each participant a confirmation note of if they secured their desired slot or not.

➱ pairings should only be MEMBER X READER or MEMBER X OC. member x member pairings will NOT be allowed.

➱ all genres (angst, fluff, crack) are accepted as long as you stick to the opposites attract theme.

➱ I will be creating a discord server for all writers to communicate and be directly updated with any news or answers to further questions regarding this project. I will NOT make it required for you to join, but I do highly recommend it. if you choose to join, a link to the server will be messaged to you once I have confirmed that you have followed all the rules and secured your spot in the collab.

➱ the minimum word count is 500 WORDS and it is a MUST to insert the “keep reading” icon after the informational content (pairing, summary, genre, word count, warnings, and whatever else you choose to include) or shortly after the beginning of your story.

➱ as you must read all the rules and guidelines to join, the codeword you will use when filling out your application is “unlikely pairing.”

➱ the due date is MAY 31ST, 2022. the last drop out date is FEBRUARY 28TH, 2022. if there is any reason you cannot submit your story by the deadline, please inform me and we will figure things out from there.

6 Tips on Writing An Actually Inclusive Reader Insert:

1. Do a ctrl + f search of the colors red and pink. If these colors are being used to describe the reader in any way, delete it.

2. Instead of "blushing", use "goosebumps", "shivers", "avoiding eye contact", etc. It still conveys the same thing, and you can get more creative than just using "blushing" 10,000 times.

3. Don't mention being pale or becoming pale (like, seriously, this is just a given). If you want to talk about the reader looking sick or dying, use "ghastly" or "sunken eyes", etc. Again, this is a great opportunity to be more creative in your language as well as inclusive

4. For body-inclusivity, don't talk about the reader sharing clothes with someone. I personally would not fit into anything that Nancy Wheeler owns, so yeah, let's just not do this

5. Don't mention hair. A lot of us can't just wash our hair and move on with our day. Don't get me started on "running their fingers across their hair". Just refrain from descriptions of styling, washing, and touching the reader's hair.

6. Don't put pictures of pretty, white girls for "aesthetics". It honestly just deters readers, and it's just not inclusive in the slightest

That's it, that's basically all you need to do to be inclusive. I'll admit, as a lighter skin POC writer, some of these did slip my mind when I used to write, but what's important is actually listening to readers and encouraging inclusivity in your writing.
