I seem to have underestimated how difficult it is to write a movie script. This will not be done by Wednesday
I have officially decided that I am going to rewrite Frankenstein as an amazing YouTube movie titled Vicky F and Creepy C
My friends will star in it, I will be the screen writer... It's going to be a hot mess!!! :] can't wait to start filming, all I have to do now is... Well, write the script!
Rewrite fact: Kane is still a bounty hunter, but people have to pay him in bottles of milk. Why? because it's funny.
(Also he's not in this picture because I don't like him so have his POV of being paid by Chrissy)
Asks are open asks are open please ask me about the rewrite please please
COMMENTS AND REBLOGS WITH GENUINE THOUGHTS ARE ENCOURAGED
Two dudes in one this time! One who's totally original and one who might as well be.
Winona is the gravekeeper, and has to tend to the bodies of both Echo and the Meseta Settlement since it's halfway between the two people. She claims to be able to commune with the dead, hearing them speaking to her. As a result, she puts snail shells in her ears, acting as earplugs. She constantly seems sad and tired, and sleeps in an empty grave, curled up into a ball.
Winona dresses in rags and furs (which are gonna be a pain to draw consistently) she tore apart and stitched together, throwing them over a turtleneck sweater. She also carries around her shovel (which isn't in the drawing because I thought this pose fit her more), using it to prop herself up when she’s so tired she can barely stand.
Chrissy, meanwhile, only had this on the wiki:
A single line. DO YALL SEE WHAT I HAVE TO WORK WITH!?!?!?!??!?!
Chrissy moved to Echo from the Big City and worked as a mathematician for the construction of the town. The town owes much of its financial stability and parts of its architecture to her.
Chrissy is even-tempered, but it belies an anxiety that causes her to be irritable. She’s a heavy thinker, but also a kleptomaniac who pockets random items to relieve stress. These two traits go hand in hand. Her speech is a little robotic, as if her mind’s the middle of calculations unrelated to the conversation at hand. It's the autism.
Both of them end up joining the investigation into Jack's murder, since one's a sort of medium and the other's super smart.
(Also not even I can tell to be honest, but Chrissy's meant to be a bear. And no, this does not mean she's an ancestor of Brian or anything like that)
We're so back
The Clifford redesign is here!
Now, let's start with the biggest change: in the Modern AU games, Cliff was nonbinary and used He/They pronouns. In TSR game, he is referred to with He/Him only, and is just a cis man. This is honestly probably the worst thing NB rep I've ever seen.
Nonbinary folks definitely existed back in 1915, they just weren't referred to as nonbinary. So now, their transness is left intact, and they are also AFAB. Besides they change their name in canon which is kinda trans already
I love the idea of Clifford being naive, but I feel like it's often overlooked that he's from a prestigious university and is definitely pretty booksmart. So, there's a bit more emphasis on them being an intellectual in the rewrite. They're usually reading when they're not a part of the conversation and just chilling in the background.
I also may have given him a slightly pretentious streak, quoting Francois Duc de la Rochefoucauld and Nietzche on occasion. Because intellectuals are a little pretentious. Yeah I'm talking to you university students this is a callout
Also, Clifford's outfit is definitely not time period accurate, but I was going for a more ambiguous time period where all the cloths look like an outfit that could exist, but has also clearly got some slight fantasy influence. How'd I do in that part, ya'll?
And lastly, I think it's worth mentioning that the route characters (Cliff, Murdoch, Nik, Will) are all the protagonists of their route rather than being the love interest. So let's tick off the first of four!
I now have a plan in place for all the Smoke Room Spiderweb Characters I plan to draw and then do a small post about.
To the two people who actually care about this rewrite, stay tuned. This'll probably take a long time.
Last three revisions to portraits.
Heheee I love Hattie's tooth gap it's so cute
Small redesign for Chang. I’m not super sure if it’s a good choice to make a Chinese character only ever wear a tangzhuang. Then again, I’m not Chinese, nor did I live in this time period. If someone could inform me further, please do
His new outfit is influenced by Pathologic, I will admit, but it manages to make him look professional and sleek. I’m not using the tangzhuang simply because I don’t know if I should.
Again, this is a cry for help: please educate me about his original outfit if you know anything or know anyone
Spiderweb Spiderweb Spiderweeeeeeeeeeeeee Heheh otter lady
Cybelle also started off as a throwaway line. I designed her with the intent to make her sort of Toriel-esque.
Cybelle runs the shelter in town, which acts as the home base for characters who don't have a home of their own (i.e. Clifford, Kane). She also has some history with Todd, which I will go into in a future post.
She doesn't do too much in the story, she's just a supporting character who puts a roof over the head of the others. And of course, she ends up encountering the paranormal too. Specifically a certain spider-looking thing( which is honestly the one good bit of horror from this game since everything else can just be chalked up to Samuel tripping balls).
that one meme but one of them uses Native American sign language
AND WE'RE BACK!
Meet Fen Liu. Probably one of the most changed characters from the source material.
Liu was a throwaway line (and also a man) so I classify her as an original character. Liu starts the story as the maid of Gretchen and Alfred, who treat her as nothing but a servant.
Liu speaks English quite well, but chooses to speak only Chinese to spite Gretchen. She plans to take down the Byrnes family, take everything from them, and leads a group of other residents of Echo with the intent of taking down the people in power.
She becomes the leader of this group after something paranormal happens - because this is Echo, paranormal things happen all the time - which earns her a scar over the nose, newfound freedom, and also general plot relevance. She also gets an axe to protect herself.
Down with the patriarchy, thank you if you saw this and liked it.
And here’s her second portrait
That’s cute Andy made a friend
Whoohoo more spiderweb content!
Meet Saffron Windsor Lloyd! She's a supernatural entity who frequently visits Dahlia. She appears only to Dahlia, appearing when nobody else would be able to see her.
But more often than not, Lloyd provides an additional perspective on Dahlia's visions of the future (will be fleshing that out in a future post). She usually just whispers into the ears of the Byrnes family and their associates, giving them a nudge in the direction to achieve their goals, whether they are malicious or noble. Her motivation just seems to push people along their paths. A true chaotic neutral.
Bonus art of Cynthia and Dahlia. Gonna give Miss Byrnes a love interest every route simply because lesbians deserve the world.
SPIDERWEB CONTENT!!! (requested by no one)
Meet one of the first original characters for the rewrite, Lillian Ivory. Lillian is hired by the mayor of Echo (who is a real character he just exists for five minutes) to investigate the paranormal happenings, and by extension the murder of Jack Abner.
She takes jurisdiction of the murder case away from William, causing the sheriff to go rogue. And also I wanna imagine fun scenarios for Todd to have with a character besides Will. And we need more than just two maybe three people investigating a murder.
This is also a little scene where an anonymous call tips Lillian off, while Todd, loser that he is, tries to listen to her like a child trying to eavesdrop on their parent's call.
I mean, it doesn't work out well. She tries to hide it from him because he'll probably blab, but he finds out anyway and tells Dimitri (miner guy) leading to the Stag getting absolutely raided and taken out of business.
I'll admit this is mostly because I hate the Stag because it is responsible for that one scene with Kane. Also a lot of characters don't have any traits outside of going there. I don't hate gay bars in general though, it's just this one specifically.
It's not over for the Stag though. It's still a perfectly good building. So it's taken over by the Stompers, who are basically just an anarchist group made up of every child in town, all teaming up to live independently from the adults in town. (NOTE: the image above doesn't picture Blithe, Andy and Melissa, but they are a part of the group too.)
Several revisions to portraits
Samuel’s earring has been moved so it’s a stud, and the same has happened to Cynthia as well as the removal of some unnecessary shading, Lillian’s old one was poorly drawn, and Chang, Nik and Todd’s were just traced over sprites. On top of that, Todd has gone from purple to grey, because he’s a cop and they unfortunately do not have purple privileges.
A final batch of characters. Now to write what they all do
Continued from last post
Character portraits for Spiderweb. Some of these require revisions due to being traced over actual sprites.
