Facebook user Kai Steele posted this in the SWC group; the Maul in the background was apparently an unexpected surprise. ššš
People be all like; itās Reyās lightsaber. Itās Lukeās lightsaber. Itās Mazās lightsaber.
I canāt say that I particularly care a ton in this specific case but honestly, things would be so much easier if characters just⦠made their own sabers. And it would be easier if they really leaned into that while kyber semi-sentience/choosing stuff.
I donāt know many people who said Anakinās lightsaber was Lukeās saber. As far as I know, it was considered he was using/had his fathers saber. Other Jedi carried around othersā sabers as well. Obi-Wan used Qui-Gonās for quite some time before he went and made his own again. Cal Kestis carried around his own masters saber for, like, five years. If I remember correctly, I think it was Kit Fisto (maybe it was someone else, not entirely sure) he carried around his deceased padawanās saber. This appears to be a fairly common practice.
I donāt care a whole lot, although I feel especially with lightsabers, itās really the creatorās saber, whether or not someone else uses it for any amount of time. And honestly, you can call it Reyās saber or Lukeās saber or whatever but I think, generally speaking, the saber will always be the builderās saber. The one who bonded with the kyber inside. The one who made it.
Honestly, Iād rather have a character bond with their own kyber crystal and make their own saber, than using someone elseās/having it passed down and claiming it as their own.
But thatās just my thought on the matter.
I feel like this whole season has been a subtle love letter to Jedi: Fallen Order
I like how the Bad Batch immediately jumped to agree with Omegaās suggestion, because for once it takes her out of the immediate danger.
Omega: Can I go with-?
Hunter: Yes, yes you can!
Chuchi: But she doesnāt have-
Tech: Clearance? No problem, Iāll hack the imperial database!
Chuchi: Okay but sheāll need-
Echo: A disguise? No problem! Here take this poncho!
Calās lightsaber is cool. I know the reason for the stances is because video game, but character and story-wise it makes sense too.
The different stances give Cal increased adaptability for different situations. It plays into the whole āSurvivors. We adapt.āmessage.
It also shows Calās natural combat prowess. No one taught him to wield these other stances, he figured it out on his own, building on a strong foundation from Jaro Tapal.
Itās also a great reminder of his scrapper days. Light sabers are notoriously difficult to build and modify, and for Cal to build such a complex weapon, it is clear how much Prauf taught him on Bracca.
Finally, I love what the double bladed saber represents for Cal. He builds it on Ilum after overcoming a moment of hopelessness. He takes the broken crystal and uses it to make a double bladed saber that can split apart. He adapts.
A lot of people comment that his double bladed stance feels really powerful compared to others, and I canāt help but wonder if thatās on purpose. Story-wise it makes the most sense for it to be the one he favors. Yes, he usually defaults to a standard saber in cut scenes but thatās the one he was trained on. Heās also had the double sided saber since the first game, meaning heās had five years of training with it. Heās had the split sabers too, but he used them as a special attack within the double sided saber stance.
As much as I love Jedi Survivor, I donāt think the studio understands how crossguard sabers work. I understand having it be a heavy two-handed weapon because video game, but crossguard sabers arenāt from a custom emitter. When you bleed a crystal wrong you need vents to emit the excess energy. Itās nothing game breaking but I think itās funny.
Iām sure that I am not the first one to come up with this headcanon, but I like to think that Cal changes his lightsaber color from its canonical blue to green after starting something with Merrin so he can match her magick. Because Cal is dorky like that.
Also, the lightsaber he uses technically isnāt his. It belonged to Jaro Tapal.
Anyway, thanks for my too-long meta analysis of me reading too deeply into things that probably only exist because of video game mechanics!
The Jedi Fallen Order recap is like:
Trilla: We seek a dangerous fugitive.
Then it hard cuts to a cute ginger with shaggy hair, freckles, and a poncho who has a little smile, a droid best friend, and who gave their lightsaber to a nightsister who was threatening him five minutes earlier.
Hereās a quick little digital art piece of my favorite SW droid BD-1 (aside for Chopper that is) in celebration of May the 4th.
Thereās nothing much else to say exceptā¦May the Fourth be with you!
I try to make gif-animation. Want to make similar stuff with other characters.
āJediā game series was my discovery of the last year. My husband gifted it to me almost four years ago, but Iām glad, Iād played it just two months ago (just in time).
she's literally me.....
Whatās he doing walking around with a waist like that?
